Do you think language unites or divides us ?

power-of-language.jpg

I believe that Language unites us not divides us.
Language is important, because it helps millions of people communicate. Language is a part of speech that is important and sometimes needed for one's survival. When you move to a different country or region, learning the local Language will help you to communicate and integrate into the local community. Even if the locals speak your language, it's still worth your while to learn the local language, doing so will demonstrate your interest in, you are commitment to a new country. As globalization and mobility in communications are bringing the world ever closer together it's more urgent for global citizens to be competent in other languages. For example, there are dozens of dialects of Chines, but there in one single national language that helps to bind those people together as one nation. I think that language helps to create a national identity. It also offers job opportunities, if you know more than one language it can guarantee you a better job that will be higher paying than if only one language is known. Another example is this school MCTC is a diverse school, students from different cultures and different places but the one thing that unites them in Language.

My Immigration experience

I am from Ethiopia, and I came to the united states Sep19, 2008. The reason that I came to America is to get a better life and Education. My family and I were born in Ethiopia and raised in many different countries. The reason why we Immigrated to the U.S was because my dad was a political person and because he was a lead of Oromo group. In Ethiopia there are a lot of different tribes and they didn't like each other. Also, the tribe that controlled the government in Ethiopia was Amharic, so whenever the army saw people from a different culture they arrested them and kept them in Jail for about three month and beat
them for no reason. One day the army arrested my dad and kept him in jail for a month because he was anti government .Than my dad said we should move to a refugee camp in Djibouti so we can find away to bring us to the United State .We were so glad to come to America because their government treats all people equally no matter what tribe. Being in America is big opportunity that changed our life. In the beginning we had hard time adopting to American culture and learning English to communicate with people which we eventually overcame. The way we dressed and the way the Americans dressed were different. Also in America we got the opportunity to go to school and achieve our dream. Over all, I believe coming to America was a good decision.
